GSSC Cultural and Language Expo
My role: Originator and delivery lead · GSSC Multicultural Liaison Leader (MLL)
Created and led the school’s first-ever Cultural and Language Expo, bringing students, families and the school community together to celebrate cultural heritage and language.

Originated the idea and led the school’s first-ever Cultural and Language Expo as GSSC’s Multicultural Liaison Leader (MLL). Held on 18 June 2026 alongside Family CALD Night, the inaugural event brought students, families and the school community together to celebrate cultural heritage and language.

Led the Arabic station at VSL Shepparton’s inaugural Expo at GSSC, connecting language learning with maps, flags, landmarks, cultural displays and activities for young visitors.

Led the Arabic station at the first Cultural & Languages Expo hosted by the Victorian School of Languages – Shepparton Centre at GSSC on 25 October 2025. The station connected Arabic learning with maps, flags, landmarks, cultural displays and activities for young visitors.

تولّيت قيادة المحطة العربية في أول معرض للثقافات واللغات تنظمه المدرسة الفيكتورية للغات — مركز شيبارتون، واستضافته GSSC يوم ٢٥ أكتوبر ٢٠٢٥. ربطت المحطة تعلّم العربية بالخرائط والأعلام والمعالم والعروض الثقافية والأنشطة المخصّصة للزوار الصغار.

Guided 40 student writers and interviewers in sharing stories of the GSSC school family, while supporting confidence, leadership, community service and creative development.

A GSSC school and community film involving more than 350 students and staff, exploring displacement, resettlement and belonging. Winner of the 2025 Chairperson’s Refugee Stories Award.

Writer and co-director, alongside producer and co-director Darryl McConnell. Completed in 2023 for Refugee Week 2023, this GSSC school and community film involved more than 350 students and staff, exploring displacement, resettlement and belonging.
The film received the Chairperson’s Refugee Stories Award at the 2025 Multicultural Film Festival and is available through SBS On Demand. Community screenings have included discussion and panel conversations. Part 2: The Camp is planned.

الطريق إلى الحرية — الجزء الأول: الرحلة
الكاتب والمخرج المشارك إلى جانب المنتج والمخرج المشارك داريل ماكونيل. اكتمل الفيلم المدرسي والمجتمعي لأسبوع اللاجئين سنة ٢٠٢٣، وشارك فيه أكثر من ٣٥٠ طالبًا وموظفًا من GSSC، متناولًا النزوح وإعادة الاستقرار والانتماء.
نال الفيلم جائزة قصص اللاجئين من رئيس المفوضية في مهرجان الأفلام متعددة الثقافات سنة ٢٠٢٥، وهو متاح عبر SBS On Demand. وتضمنت عروضه المجتمعية نقاشات وجلسات حوارية. ومن المخطط إعداد الجزء الثاني: المخيم.
School horticulture & practical learning
My role: School garden contributor and practical learning host
Supported The Patch through tree donations and planting, welcomed VCE Agriculture students for grafting and budding, and contributed to the SENSE of HUMUS class.
Project details
- Supported The Patch school garden, including tree donations and planting with students; recognised in school and local coverage in 2023.
- Hosted GSSC Year 11 VCE Agriculture students in November 2022 for practical grafting and budding activities.
- Received a GSSC letter of appreciation for support of the SENSE of HUMUS class, 30 November 2021.

البستنة المدرسية والتعلّم العملي
- دعمت حديقة «ذا باتش» المدرسية بالتبرّع بالأشجار والزراعة مع الطلاب، ووثّقت المدرسة والتغطية المحلية هذا العمل سنة ٢٠٢٣.
- استضفت طلاب الصف الحادي عشر في مادة الزراعة ضمن VCE في نوفمبر ٢٠٢٢ لأنشطة عملية في التطعيم والتركيب بالبراعم.
- تلقيت رسالة تقدير من GSSC لدعم صف SENSE of HUMUS بتاريخ ٣٠ نوفمبر ٢٠٢١.

Helped share a children’s story of cultural diversity and belonging through free copies for schools, libraries, kindergartens and community centres.

Project team member and contributor through Greater Shepparton City Council’s Community Leadership Program. The book was written by Adelle Brown and Katrina Rowland; the project team also included Hussam Saraf, Kara McCann and Karen Sacuzzo.

Multi-grafting & the Guinness milestone
My role: Gardener and multi-grafting grower
Growing five fruit species on one tree, earning Guinness recognition in 2021, and sharing practical gardening knowledge.

My multi-grafting work brought five fruit species together on one tree and earned Guinness World Record recognition in 2021. Media coverage described ten varieties. The garden also became a place to share practical growing skills and a message of coexistence.

My first book grew from a field study in Al-Hamza, Iraq. The original handwritten manuscript contains 382 pages. One hundred copies were produced and distributed free to relevant government institutions. The available photographed pages are preserved in the manuscript archive.
