During my work at Al Hamzah General Hospital in 2009, I served as a doctor’s assistant (medical assistant) in the major operating theatres.

From March 2008 to January 2009, I worked as a doctor’s assistant (medical assistant) at Al Shaheed Hakim General Hospital in Baghdad, serving in the emergency department, major operating theatres, paediatrics department and men’s ward. These photographs preserve memories with the hospital’s medical staff.
عملتُ في مستشفى الحكيم في بغداد بعنوان مساعد طبيب (معاون طبي)، من آذار ٢٠٠٨ إلى كانون الثاني ٢٠٠٩، في أقسام الطوارئ والعمليات الكبرى وقسم الأطفال والقسم الرجالي. توثّق هذه الصور ذكريات العمل مع الكوادر الطبية في المستشفى.

During my volunteering with the Iraqi Red Crescent Society in Al-Diwaniyah, we carried out avian influenza awareness campaigns in schools and government institutions.
خلال عملي التطوعي مع الهلال الأحمر العراقي في محافظة الديوانية، شاركنا في حملات التوعية بإنفلونزا الطيور في المدارس والمؤسسات الحكومية.

First-year research in community health.
بحث نهاية السنة الدراسية الأولى — حالات العوق الفيزيائي في الديوانية
At the end of my first academic year in the Community Health Department at the Medical Technical Institute in Al-Diwaniyah, I worked with my classmate and research partner, Firas Khudair, on a study of physical disability in Al-Diwaniyah Governorate. Our supervisor was Dr. Inaam, our physiology lecturer.
في نهاية السنة الدراسية الأولى في قسم صحة المجتمع بالمعهد التقني الطبي في الديوانية، أعددتُ مع زميل الدراسة وشريكي في البحث فراس خضير بحثًا عن حالات العوق الفيزيائي في محافظة الديوانية، بإشراف الدكتورة إنعام، أستاذة مادة الفسلجة.

In 2009, I prepared my first book, واقع المدينة: الواقع البيئي والصحي لمدينة الحمزة, a 382-page field study organised into several sections. Calligrapher Haider Hashim, the educational counsellor at Al-Hamza Secondary School in 2009, wrote the manuscript by hand. I arranged for it to be reproduced as 100 professionally bound photocopies. These were distributed free to the relevant government institutions and departments through official correspondence.
The second section, “Illustrative Photographs”, documents the field visits through photographs of waste-disposal sites, streets, schools, hospital facilities and community visits. The album presents selected photographed pages and separate close-up details.

Section Three, “Photographs without comment”, covers pages 259–267. Section Four, “Documentation of visits”, covers pages 268–296 and preserves handwritten records by the people visited, with dates, signatures and official office stamps. Their words of thanks and encouragement are a treasured recognition of service to Al-Hamza.

The fifth and final section, Documents (pages 297–382), brings together government letters facilitating the research, information and official records relating to the study, and registers identifying the schools within the research area. The album includes research records on pages 305–320 and the school registers and colour key on pages 330–334. The fourth part presents the researcher’s questions on page 335 and handwritten responses and contributions on pages 336–357. The final part continues with further documents and statistics.
