Further selected pages shown here are 12, 22, 33 and 34, covering the city’s environmental and health conditions, proposals, and municipal and environmental visits. This section records my visits and discussions about the field study with people working in public institutions. The records were handwritten by the people I met, dated and endorsed with their signatures and the official stamps of the government offices in which they worked or which they managed.

Many include thanks for my service to the city and prayers for the success of the research. I treasure these words as a medal of appreciation from the people of my hometown.

The final section of the 382-page manuscript is the Documents section, beginning on page 297 and continuing to page 382. It is divided into several parts, beginning with official letters from government departments and institutions facilitating the completion of the research.

القسم الخامس هو القسم الأخير من الكتاب، ويحمل عنوان «الوثائق»، ويمتد من الصفحة ٢٩٧ إلى الصفحة ٣٨٢. ويتفرّع داخله إلى عدة أقسام، أولها الكتب الرسمية الصادرة من الدوائر والمؤسسات الحكومية لتسهيل مهمتي في إكمال البحث.

I regarded this official support as recognition of the research and the book, and of the seriousness of an undertaking aimed at addressing the city’s environmental and health problems in 2009. The letters shown here request cooperation with visits, access to institutions and completion of the field study in the public interest.

وأعدّ هذه المخاطبات بمثابة قبول رسمي للبحث والكتاب، واعتراف بجدية العمل الذي سعيت من خلاله إلى معالجة مشكلات المدينة البيئية والصحية سنة ٢٠٠٩. وتوثّق الكتب المعروضة طلب التعاون معي وتسهيل زياراتي للمؤسسات وإكمال الدراسة خدمةً للصالح العام.

First part: official letters facilitating the research

The opening documents include letters from Al-Diwaniyah Provincial Council, Al-Hamza Municipal Council, Al-Hamza Education Directorate and Al-Diwaniyah Health Directorate. Copies bearing additional stamps and handwritten administrative endorsements are retained as distinct records.

This part brings together information, correspondence and official documents from government departments concerned with the subject of the study. The supplied pages 305–320 include Al-Hamza Municipality data and environmental directorate reports, letters and visit photographs preserved in the 2009 manuscript.

This part contains school registers for Al-Hamza district within Al-Qadisiyah Governorate for the 2008–2009 academic year. The manuscript uses colour to distinguish the primary and secondary schools included in the research from those outside its scope.

يضم هذا الجزء سجلات المدارس في قضاء الحمزة ضمن محافظة القادسية للعام الدراسي ٢٠٠٨–٢٠٠٩، مع استخدام الألوان لتمييز المدارس الابتدائية والثانوية المشمولة بالبحث عن المدارس غير المشمولة به.

Page 330 explains the colour key. Page 331 presents the secondary school register, including intermediate and preparatory schools; pages 332–334 present the primary school registers. The photographs retain the original page numbers and can be opened at full size.

Page 335 records the questions I presented to school principals. Pages 336–357 preserve the handwritten responses and contributions, with the names, signatures, dates and stamps appearing on the original sheets.

The questions address waste disposal, responsibility for cleaning and collection, sanitation facilities, protective equipment, assessments of school conditions, and the effects of the environmental and health situation on children and students. Page 345 continues the response on page 344; page 357 closes this part with a handwritten contribution about pollution and psychological wellbeing.
